you’re a modern yogi who wants to learn Sanskrit,
in love with the beauty of mantra and curious to grow your knowledge.
you want to know what you are saying, peek behind the curtain of mystery.
you don’t want to move into overwhelm when the subject gets brought up.
rather than hedging it, you want to stand confidently in Sanskrit and yogic wisdom.
the first time you chanted a deep calm came over you, the feeling of home.
now you want to dig in, uncover the nuts and bolts, the practical behind the magic.
you long to have someone to guide you on your journey. you don’t want to climb Mount Everest
alone, you want a seasoned sherpa, a mentor, a guide.
You are in the right place!
here is where I come in…
I’m Manorama and I specialize in making Sanskrit and Yoga Philosophy accessible, modern and fun without losing the deep and technical parts.
I know how hard it is to find a good teacher, let alone a Sanskrit teacher!
When you work with me, I hold your hand, your interest and your trust with great respect and feel honored to work with you.
for those who never want to mispronounce a mantra again and want to be Sanskrit-knowledgeable, I’m your person. I’ve got over 33 years of experience (yup started when I was a kid) I’m ready to guide you on your dream of Sanskrit and Yogic wisdom.
Most days you can find me with my hair up in a messy bun putzing at home in New York City,
balancing a hot cup of chai, modern life and my devotion to easeful Yogic living.
I’m a yogic guide, a cosmic sherpa of sorts, a student of life, a sweetheart, daughter, a sister, friend a star chaser and mom to my two cats.
I love cozy things like slippers and a good reading chair with the perfect throw blanket. I enjoy cooking fresh vegan food, as I sway-dance in the kitchen to Jazz. I have an unusual affinity for artichokes, more than the average lady, which I inherited from my grandpa, Pops.
I am blessed to be at the top of my field teaching Sanskrit & Yoga Philosophy.
I also enjoy:
- being near the ocean
- stand-up comedy on Netflix (seriously)
- Christmas music (Sinatra, Crosby)
- colonial dollhouse furniture (something from childhood)
- a double chocolate cookie
- swimming at the lake upstate
my training went like this, at 13, traditional style (think Miyagi meets Yoda) my mom introduced me to Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati (Ramamurti Mishra, M.D.).
like a grandpa, Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, Guru ji, took me under his wing and taught me what I call the ‘codes of the universe.’ his medium of transmission was Sanskrit, Meditation and Yoga Philosophy.
oh did I mention he was the kindest most intelligent person I’d ever met, a brain surgeon, psychiatrist, and P.h.D in Sanskrit! (so guru is a good word in my vocabulary).
I trained with him, serving as his personal assistant until he passed in 1993 when I was 22.
after a few years of healing from that loss, I went to Columbia University where I earned a BA in
Film and also studied Linguistics.
I’ll teach you the mindset to push past any blocks to reach your Sanskrit & Yoga Philosophy goals.
my early immersion in the traditional yogic training, coupled with a detailed precision with sound, along with my studies at Columbia, position me to be able to guide you in how to bridge Sanskrit, and soulful yogic wisdom into your modern life.
I can’t wait to meet you and share the codes of the universe with you.
