In this Sutra, Patanjali says the name of Ishvara is Pranava.
Pranava means OM or Nadam (the inner sound vibration). How
does meditation on OM affect the Mind?
Etymologically the word Pranava offers insight:
pra = ever + nava = new. The thinking mind always wants
what is new. OM both represents what is eternally fresh, as well as
being the vibration of silence. Therefore, when one
|
meditates on Om or Nadam that inner sound both
guides the mind and stills it at the same time. This is
because meditation on OM engages the mind and guides the mind to flow
with energy. When the mind flows with energy it becomes
energy itself. Since vibration is always here and now then flowing
with energy keeps the mind in the moment. Once the mind is in the
now the seeker experiences the state of tranquil awareness
known as Samadhi.
