Purusa is a Conscious Noumenon

"All composite things must exist for the sake and benefit of a principle which is sentient.  As a bed, which is an aggregate of different parts, is for the sake of the man who sleeps upon it, so this world, which is a conglomeration of material elements, is for the sake and benefit of Purusa.  The very name Purusa means the Principle which uses matter as its bed (puru, matter + sha, sleeper).  In other words, the Principle which uses matter as its instrument is called Purusa.  This material body with its perceptual mechanism is for the sake of Self. Every design implies a designer."
